Sandi Faye Dunn Payne

February 1, 1941 — October 7, 2020

Sandra

Sandra “Sandi” Faye Dunn Payne, 79, of West Valley City, Utah passed away 7 October 2020 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born 1 February 1941 in Tooele, Utah, the third child of Raymond William Dunn and Phyllis Sarah Braithwaite Dunn. They lived in Mercur, Utah until she was three when they moved to Tooele where she graduated from Tooele High School in 1959. She then attended Business College in Salt Lake City.

Sandi held a job in a large department store as an addressograph operator before moving to Salt Lake City with a friend and changed jobs working for State of Utah Welfare Department as a key punch operator. She later worked for Granite School District as a Teacher’s Aide and Title One Aide.

She met her future husband, Marty Kent Payne, in September 1961 and was married on 29 December 1961 and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on 20 September 1968. Sandi and Marty lived in Granger, Utah then moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and Magna, Utah before building a home in Granger, Utah in 1966 where she resided until her passing. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sandi held multiple church callings including those in the Sunday School, Relief Society, Young Women’s, Primary, Stake Primary President, and a specialist for the New Beginnings program. She helped organize the MIA and Young Women’s Ward and Stake Girls Camps for several years. She served a full-time mission as a mission liaison on Sheppard Air Force Base with her retired military husband in the Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Mission from 2005-06. Afterwards they served two inner-city missions in the Utah Salt Lake City North and West Missions, an inner-stake mission with the Salt Lake Granger North Stake, and a service mission with Deseret Transportation. Sandi had a love to serve others and gave freely of her time.

Our family and friends outings every summer involved lots of planning on her part. Tents, trailers, sleeping bags, campfire dinners, roasted marshmallows, waterskiing, boating, theme parks, ocean beaches, motorbiking, and Easter egg hunts in Simpson Springs were all favorite traditions. She had a love of holiday decorations and hand-painted most of her monthly appropriately-themed knick-knacks. Mom, you will be happy to know our rooms are clean, baseboards dusted, lawn mowed, teeth brushed, and prayers have been said before bedtime. We will take care of Dad as you know he needs the help and someone to go eat lunch.

Sandi is survived by her husband; and five children: Lonna (Scott) Anderson of West Jordan, Utah, Russell of West Valley City, Utah, Terrol (Karri) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Boyd (Rachel) of South Jordan, Utah, and Jason of Willard, Utah; along with thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to attend the viewing on Sunday, 11 October 2020 from 6-8PM at McDougal Funeral Home at 4330 S Redwood Rd, Taylorsville, Utah. Masks are required while inside the building.

Due to the current requirements for social distancing, funeral services will be limited to family members only. Interment will take place at Valley View Memorial Park in West Valley City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to a charitable organization of your choice; Sandi would recommend the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
