Mimi Shiratori Cox

March 21, 1934 — April 23, 2020

Miyoko (Mimi) Shiratori Cox passed away on April 23, 2020 at the Avalon West Health & Rehabilitation, West Jordan, Utah at age 86 from diabetes. She was the eighth child of twelve born to Tsunesaku and Tomi Shiratori In Rexburg, Idaho on March 21, 1934.

Mimi graduated from Idaho Falls High School and earned her practitioner nursing license at Sacred Heart in Rexburg, Idaho. She found joy in serving at many care centers and hospitals in Idaho and Utah, helping those that needed care.

We would like to thank Dr. David Powell and Daniel J. McAtee and health works at Stephen D. Ratcliff Medical Clinic for their gentle care to Mimi. We would also like to thank the healthcare workers at Avalon Health Care. Thank you for the Salt Lake 19th and Deerfield Ward members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Japanese Church of Christ, the Nisei group of Salt Lake and many family and friends.

She is survived by daughters, Tami (Harry) Barrett, of Norfolk, VA and Teri Akiyama, of West Valley City, Utah; granddaughter Teresa (W. Eric) Tinder; grandson Alan (Christina) Barrett; five great-grandsons, William Eric, Preston & Mason Tinder and Peyton & Noah Barrett, Norfolk, VA; brother Seiji (Linda) Shiratori, Idaho Falls, ID; sisters Aiko Shikashio, Coeur d’Alene, ID & Chitose Chun, Camarrilo, CA. She also had many nephews, nieces and other family members around the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Teiko; her one brother, Tatsuki Shiratori; seven sisters, Kiyoko (Takeshi) Minigawa, Teruko Helen (Kenji) Shiozawa, Michiko  (Shigeru) Nii, Misao (Takeo) Haga, Yuriko (Yoshito Vince) Tamura, Harue (William) Kaufman, Lynda Nori Shiratori; brother-in-law, James Shikashio & Harvey Chun.

She will be interred in Fielding Memorial Park, Idaho Falls, ID at a later date. If you get a chance, listen to Amazing Grave or Ue O Muite Arukou (Sukiyaki) in remembrance of Mimi. Thank you McDougal Funeral Home.
