Mekiafa Tupua Jr.

October 6, 1966 — January 24, 2022

Our dad, Mekiafa Tupua Jr., went home to his Heavenly Father and reunited with his mom Faimasulu Fuimaono and his youngest son, Josiah Esoto, on January 24, 2022. He is survived by his wife Afatia Frost-Tupua, and his children: Tuisina Sophilynne, Michelle, Jackie, Foai,  Faimasulu, Elu, Nelson, Lovey (taule’ale’a), Shyne, JD(Diko), Salma (Sweetie) and Zerah. He is also survived by his father, Pa’u Tago Mekiafa Tupua Sr, and his siblings Tiute To’oto’o, Tala’ilotu Tupua, Fa’amasani Tupua, Puaula Isopo, Lagituaiva Tupua and Soma Fuimaono. He has five grandchildren: Spencer, Vila, Riley, Naomi, and Numi.

Dad was born at the Utulei Hospital in American Samoa on October 6, 1966. He attended Manulele and Manu’a Elementary. He continued his high school education when he moved to Hawai’i at Kailua High School and graduated from Kahuku High School. He attended BYU Hawai’i while dancing at the Polynesian Cultural Center for the Samoa Village. He left Hawai’i for American Samoa where he worked for the American Samoa Government Telecommunication Authority for 30 years and moved to Utah with his family in 2014.

He is a quiet yet protective brother, son, father, and grandfather. He is a man of few words but when he spoke, his manner was gentle and spoke words of wisdom. He loved being goofy with his family and would sing and dance whenever, wherever he had the chance. He enjoyed long drives anywhere if he wasn’t the one driving but would end up sleeping through the drive. No matter the trials and tribulations, he danced his way through hope, love and laughter being surrounded by the ones he loved and all who loved him. Dad is not here physically, but we are reminded by his thought of, “God calls when he knows you are ready.”

We will have a viewing for our dad from 9am-11:30am on Saturday, February 5th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 6500 S Dixie Dr, West Jordan, Ut, 84084, followed by a church service from 12pm-1pm. We will lay him to rest at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S Redwood Rd, West Jordan, UT 84084.
