Keith Allen Thomson

June 10, 1943 — June 2, 2020

Keith Allen Thomson, 76, of South Salt Lake City, passed away June 2, 2020 after a long illness. He was born June 10, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah along with his twin sister Kay to James Rennie Thomson and Zelnora “Peg” (Jarman) Thomson. He was a dedicated husband to his wife Sherry for over 50 years. A private graveside services will be held June 13, 2020.

Keith was a painter for many years at the University of Utah Hospital. A painter by trade but an artist, poet and philosopher at heart. He enjoyed sharing jazz and classical music concerts, art museums, ballet and plays with his daughter Shaunna. He frequently sent his handmade greeting cards, poems and artwork to cheer people up or to just say hello. Keith was affectionately known for texting his “Awesome Quote of the Day”.

Keith loved spending time with his family and many dear friends. He shared a special lifelong bond with his twin sister Kay and his nephew Don. He had a big heart and was a good listener, often taking the time to lend an ear and encourage those who were struggling. He would humbly share his life’s mistakes and lessons just to say “you’re not alone, I have also made mistakes but it’s not what you’ve done, it’s what you’ve learned and what you do with it now”. He was always wise beyond his years because as he liked to say he had many lessons at the “School of Hard Knocks”. For these reasons, his grandchildren would lovingly refer to him as “Yoda”.

In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling in his VW Bus and especially camping at Zion  National Park. He loved nature, always growing a jungle of flowers and vegetables and feeding the neighborhoods many birds. You could always tell where Keith Thomson’s house was, you just had to look for the many pigeons on the utility lines.

He is survived by his wife Sherry Thomson; daughter Shaunna (David) Brugger; grandchildren Sarah Brugger and Michael Brugger; sister Kay Wood; nephew Don (Shauna) Thomson; and  many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents; and his siblings James R. Thomson, Myrtle Baird, Robert Thomson, and Don Thomson.
