Glen Bennett Wells

December 25, 1935 — September 5, 2021

Our dear, sweet, gentle father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Glen Bennett Wells, passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 5, 2021. Dad died of natural causes and was never the same following the loss of his beloved eternal companion, Georgia who passed earlier this year.

Glen was born in Preston, Idaho to Merlin Alfred and Fern Bennett Wells on Christmas Day, December 25, 1935, and was fortunate to have three sisters, Tamera (Mel- deceased) Heaps, Linda (Fred) McDonald, and Bonnie (Mark) Jeffs (both-deceased).

He grew up in Preston and then Pocatello, Idaho where he met the love of his life, Georgia Carolyn Wood, at Pocatello High School. They were married in Pocatello on November 13, 1954 and later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. They recently celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary. Glen and Georgia lived briefly in Ely, Nevada and Pocatello, Idaho, but soon moved to the Salt Lake Valley, residing in Taylorsville for the last 58 years. He made his career at Utah Power and Light and a survey and location engineer.

Glen was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings in the church, including being a Temple Ordinance Worker at the Jordan River Temple. He even served as a Scout Master in his early 70’s, loving every minute of it.

Glen passionately enjoyed being in the outdoors camping, hunting and especially fishing with his family and close cousin and friend Allen Martin. He was an excellent skier and a member of the Brighton Ski Patrol. Glen reached the level of Brown Belt in Judo, one step below the Black Belt. Motorcycles became a favorite all family activity including racing local motocross.

Glen’s parents instilled a talent and passion for music, including playing the piano by ear, and singing with his dear Georgia at church and social events. Glen excelled in almost everything he tried but a love of running, racewalking, and hiking were especially prominent in his life. When runners knee issues arrived, he changed to racewalking and established the local Wasatch Walkers Club and competed at the highest level of USA Masters Track and Field events traveling around the county. In 1986, he broke the world record for the 31-mile (50K) racewalk in his age category and followed that up with a self-conducted, family supported, 50 mile (80K) event, a long time goal.

More than anything in life, Glen loved being with his large extended family. He had a quick smile, a welcoming presence and giant heart, willing to help anyone he could. His contagious laugh and great sense of humor will be remembered and cherished by those he left behind.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Carolyn Wood Wells; and a son, Richard David Wells; and Richard’s wife Lisa George Wells.

He is survived by children Michael (Launa) Wells and Christopher (Lu) Wells; and grandchildren Jason (Jennifer) Wells, Brian (Ann) Wells, Jenny (Brian) Alama, Tyler (Arina) Wells, Lindsay (Jared) Lane, Shalene (Darrell) Morris, Megan (Tyler) Thurgood, Amber (Jared) Nattress, Kristi Jo Frandsen (Aaron-deceased), Ryan (Chelsea) Walker, Josh (Wendi) Walker, Keith Walker (deceased); and 35 great grandchildren.

We are all eternally grateful for his love, support, sacrifices and example of kindness, faith, and family.
