Christel Erika Meyer

December 25, 1937 — December 26, 2020

Christel

Christel Erika Kopelsky Wickline Wheeler Meyer (83) was born December 25, 1937 in Saarbrucken, West Germany to Josef and Josefa Kopelsky. She returned to our Father in Heaven on December 26, 2020 due to natural causes.

Her childhood was challenging as she had a lot of chores at a very young age, taking care of all 6 of her younger brothers needs as she was the only girl, and all this during the hardships of the war. She met our dad, Richard Floyd Wickline, in 1958. They married June 27, 1960. Their eldest daughter was born in 1961 in Germany and then shortly after, they moved their family to America; mom always said she wanted to raise her family in America. They moved to Indiana where their other 4 daughters were born.

She earned her RN license in Germany and continued her practice in the States. Our parents next adventure included several restaurants; mom was an amazing cook. In March of 1977, they accepted an invitation to become members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faithful service blessed her family and many others. She loved the temple. She worked for LDS food services from where she retired.

Two other amazing men came into her life, who preceded her in death. At this point (July 2014) it became necessary to move her residency to Golden Living Assisted Living in Taylorsville, Utah, where she loved the staff. Mom was a hard nut to crack, but they saw her big heart and was able to soften the hard outer shell. She developed many friendships through her time there, and it was her desire that this would be her final residency. Peace has come to the family knowing that she is free from her earthly pains and enjoying reunions with those that have passed before her.

She was preceded in death by Richard Wickline; William (Bill) Wheeler; Karl Meyer; daughter Debra Lynn Wickline; and brother Herman Kopelsky.

She is survived by daughters Petra (Sam) Graff, Heidi Wickline, Kristina (Mark) McAfee and Renata (Dan) Seipel; 19 grandchildren; and 15.5 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and their families, all of which reside in Germany.

Our sincerest thanks to the staff of Golden Living and Aspire Home Health who took such great care of our mom through her final days.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 30th, 1:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, where a viewing will precede services from 12-12:45 p.m. Masks must be worn. Services will be livestreamed at: https://vimeo.com/495250239. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
