Brett

My sweetheart Brett slipped through the veil and went home to his Heavenly Father. He was a great husband, uncle, brother, and son. His teasing ways and huge smile will be missed by so many! He has left a huge hole in many hearts that will not soon be filled, but I have confidence that he is happily serving his Savior in whatever way he can now without the restrictions and pains of diabetes to slow him down.

Brett was born in Glendale, Utah to John Antoni and Aloha Mae (Davis) Vietti. He was the caboose! His two sisters, Margerite (Gollaher) and Linda (Buttars), were teenagers when he came along. He moved to West Valley when he was 3 and lived there for the next 51 years, first in his parent’s home and then with me in a home just a mile south of that. He was in the same Stake and always said that people knew him so well that he couldn’t get away with anything! Brett and I met in a Sunday School class and then got to know each other in a singles ward. When the bishop kicked us out of that ward because we were too old, we decided to get married to continue the fun. We were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 25, 1999, and have been laughing, loving, and working together happily since then. What a privilege it is to be his wife, not only for 21 short years on earth, but for all eternity! I can’t wait until we will be together again!

Brett loved all sports. He played little league baseball as a child behind the plate as the catcher. He loved playing ball with his nephews and told many stories of broken noses, ankles and windows from stray hits and throws. He loved golf and played for many years. He said at one time that the only sport he didn’t love was soccer. It was a sissy sport that took no skill according to him. Then Real Salt Lake came to town. Brett went to one game and was hooked! He was a huge fan from that time forward! Claret red was the only red he would allow himself to wear! His greatest love, however, was BYU sports, especially football. He was “true blue” and cheered his Cougs on with fervor! His favorite days were those going down to Provo with his niece Amanda and nephews Pat and Tony to watch football games! I know that he will be one of the loudest angels cheering them on in every game from now on!

My Brett loved country music and wanted to be a D.J. when he grew up! He went to Salt Lake Community College and received a Communications Degree. He was the first one in his family to graduate from college and I was pretty proud of him for achieving that goal. Unfortunately, the broadcasting industry had changed a lot since his days of recording radio shows with his nephew Tony, and he wasn’t ever able to get a radio show of his own. Instead he worked for places such as IFA and Deseret Book where he became one of their valued employees. He always greeted his customers with a big smile and a bright “Welcome to our store!” He would go out of his way to help people find what they needed. He would tease and laugh with people and make their experience in his store a pleasure! Many people said they would go to his specific store just so he could help them!

Brett was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the gospel and studied scriptures and other books to learn as much as he could. He served valiantly where he was called. It was said of him that when he was given an assignment from his leader, the leader didn’t need to worry about it being fulfilled. He knew Brett would do it! Brett loved working in the Elder’s Quorum, the scouting program, the Sunday School and any other place he was called to serve. I believe he is now fulfilling other assignments with as much enthusiasm and dedication in Heaven.

Brett had many friends that he loved dearly! Each played an important role in his life. He loved laughing with them and spending time with them. He shared fun stories with me about those he loved. I believe if you were his friend you were a friend for life and beyond! He will still be checking in on you from time to time!

Brett taught me to love and appreciate country music. I, in turn, taught him to love classical music. He also learned to love musicals, his favorite being The Music Man. He could quote lines from that movie with the best of them. He also loved Snoopy, Coke, teasing others, Coke, bacon, Coke, salads, Coke, fireworks, Coke, Lays potato chips, Coke, M.A.S.H., Coke, his weather station, Coke, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, Coke, old coins, Coke, books from Deseret Book, Coke, anything BYU, and did I mention Coke? More than all of these he loved me and never let a moment go by without telling me so through word and deed. He was devoted to me with all of his heart! Our texts and phone calls always ended with an “I love you” or just the word “morstest”. He truly would do anything for me! How lucky and blessed my life has been to walk hand in hand with such a man!

Brett met his father, mother, sisters and many other relatives as he passed through the veil. He left me behind along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We are all saddened and heart-broken to say farewell to our beloved Brett! But we are confident that we will see him again! So, until then I say, “Goodbye sweetheart! I love you morstest!”
