Terrible Terry Nish

September 12, 1937 — July 6, 2018

Terry E. Nish, 80, passed away July 6, 2018. Terry was born September 12, 1937 to LuElla and Ernest Nish in Plymouth, Utah. Terry had four beautiful sons with Peggy Ann Howick. Terry ran his last lap, at home, in the company of his family. Terry was a fixture in the Utah auto racing and business community. Everything Terry did he did with undeniable passion, with no restrictions he forged forward with a no holds barred attitude. That passion extended into several areas of Terry's life. Although, Terry had a multitude of accomplishments these are some of his fondest. On multiple occasions, he was the captain of the United States Sprint Car team in South Africa; as a result, he touched many people's lives all over the world. He was proud to be a member of the Utah Sports Hall of Fame, Dry Lake Racing Hall of Fame, West High School Hall of Fame, a member of the famed Bonneville 200 Mile per Hour Club and 300 Mile per Hour Chapter and a former SLVRA Sprint Car Champion. Terry's legacy was passed to his sons Mike, Jeff, and TJ who raced sprint cars, midgets, Indy cars and set multiple land speed records making the Nish family the "Worlds Fastest Family". All three sons and one grandson have joined him in the Bonneville 200 mph club. His grandchildren have carried Terry's devotion, work ethic and competitive spirit into their pursued interests. Throughout the years, Terry had many people who shared in his love of racing; car owners, crew members, friends and fans. There are too many individuals to mention but Terry's love and adoration was limitless. Race fans around the world cheered or booed for Terrible Terry and he welcomed you all because he understood you were the ones that made it possible to do what he loved. We as a family thank all of you for attending the races and supporting Utah Motorsports. As a business leader, Terry was a brilliant self-taught engineer with a loyal team. His business Servi-Tech, Inc. has been a successful Utah business that he started in 1969 from the ground up. Those surrounded by Terry can attest that he taught all to dream big and work hard to accomplish what too many would seem impossible. Terry was the founder of the Utah Motorsports Foundation that supports racing families in their time of need. The foundation has assisted numerous injured drivers and their families which is one of his proudest achievements. Per Terry's wishes, in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Utah Motorsports Foundation at utahmotorsportsfoundation.com.
