Robert Rockhill Robison

August 26, 1924 — June 29, 2018

Robert Rockhill Robison passed away June 29, 2018, at Sagewood Assisted Living in South Jordan, Utah. He was born August 26, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Russell Richard Robison and Madge Elizabeth Rockhill Robison. He was the second of four children. He grew up during the Great Depression and he and his older brother Keith, whom he was very close to, were very resourceful and somewhat mischievous. Robert grew up on a farm and acquired a strong work ethic from a young age doing daily chores. He graduated from Granite High School in 1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in October 1943 and served as a flight engineer during World War II. He was stationed in Germany at the conclusion of the war. He was discharged and returned home in April 1946. Robert graduated from the University of Utah in 1950 with a BS degree in Mining Engineering. He started his working career at the US Bureau of Reclamation. It was at this office that he met the love of his life, Carol Marie Petersen, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 18, 1952. He continued working at the Bureau of Reclamation on various water projects throughout the Western United States until his retirement in 1979. He then pursued his real interest in mining as a consultant. He used to say, "I've never met a rock I didn't like." He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different callings throughout his life. He enjoyed working on family history. He loved to be outdoors and loved to fish and hike. He loved his family very much and enjoyed visiting and being surrounded by them. Robert was a fabulous storyteller and could spend hours entertaining with his recollections of his early childhood or war experiences. Robert always had a big smile on his face and was interested in everyone he met. He was a great example of enduring to the end. When asked how he was, he would always reply, "Great." Attached to this obituary are photos depicting his nearly 10 full decades of life. He is loved and will be missed by all.
