John (Jack) Shober

February 9, 1933 — June 29, 2018

Jack Shober was born Feb 9, 1933 to John and Eleanor Shober in Salt Lake City, UT. He passed away peacefully Friday, June 29, 2018, at the age of 85, with his family by his side. Jack met the love of his life and soulmate, Dorothy (Dot) Durant, while attending West High School in 1950. He often said it was love at first sight. Shortly after graduating from high school in 1951, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Thule Greenland, where he trained to become a Radar Instructor. He married his Sweetie during a leave in 1952. Jack worked at Milwaukee Electric Tools for most of his adult life, and retired at the young age of 59. He was a hard worker and great provider for his family. Jack will always be remembered by his loving wife of 66 years; children Bob (Linda) Shober, and Marci Johnson; grandchildren, Bree (Nick) Dodge, Nick (Heather) Shober, Landon Johnson; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Marian (Bob) Hayward. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Michael; brother-in-law Bob Hayward; niece Sandra Hayward; and her son Brandon Fabert. He was an accomplished baseball and fast pitch softball player and loved sharing his passion for the game with others - especially his children and grandchildren. Some of his most memorable times include playing, coaching and watching baseball and softball. He never missed a game, or an opportunity to support his children and grandchildren in whatever their current endeavors were, with Dot always by his side. Jack was a true patriot and loved his country. He loved the Denver Broncos, Babe Ruth, Tiger Woods, and playing golf with his best friends and son. He and Dot were regulars at Ogie's Caf and Jim's Restaurant. They loved the people as much as the food and genuinely enjoyed their visits. Jack was charming, charismatic, witty, selfless, funny, personable, loving, humble, and straightforward. He always called it as he saw it, and only offered advice when asked for or if it was needed. Jack was always full of love for his family, friends, and neighbors. He was quick with a laugh and was loved by all. Please join us at his graveside service Monday, July 9th at 3:00pm at Utah Veterans Memorial Park at 17111 South Redwood Road, followed by a celebration of life at Hunter Villas Clubhouse, 6836 Hunter Villa Lane. A special thank you to Dr. Michael Poku, Pam Phares, and Dr. Christine Oberg of University of Utah Healthcare. From Landon: To the best Grandpa, Husband and Dad, I will always keep you in my heart. Every decision I make will be made with your influence. I promise to be the best man I can be in dedication to you. You always told me, "When I go, every so often just say, Hey Gramps!" I will do that as much as possible. You are one of the only few that inspired me and guided me in the right direction. I joined the military because you served. To honor you and because I want to be like you. I am going to work every day to be the man you are one day and make you proud. You are my world and always will be. Thank you for everything Grandpa. You are truly the best man I have ever known. And I know you are my Guardian Angel now. We have the watch from here. I love you more than anything. I will see you when I get to the other side. Sleep well Grandpa. Place of Birth:Salt Lake City, UtahPlace of Death:Salt Lake City, Utah
