Doris Gayle Christofferson Morawetz

Doris Gayle Christofferson Morawetz passed away at her home in West Valley City on September 23, 2018 at the age of 85. She was born in Rock Spring, Wyoming on May 20, 1933 to Isaac and Mildred Christofferson. She was the youngest of 9 children. She later moved to Salt Lake City and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1951. She attended Utah State University attaining a degree in education, and eventually a Masters Degree from Brigham Young University. While attending USU she met the love of her life, Francis E Morawetz (Fritz) and was married on Aug 20, 1954, later to be sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. They moved to Granger Utah in 1955 and she started teaching at Cyprus Jr. High. Gayle taught school for 5 years while also learning the real estate business. In September 1959 she gave birth to their first daughter Kristin Klein (Norman) and 2 years later welcomed twins Kirk Morawetz (Teree) and Kim Petersen (Brent) She loved being a mother, and grandmother to 12 wonderful grandchildren and now 21 great-grandchildren. She was always very involved and interested in what was going on in each of their lives. After 5 years at home with her young family, Gayle began teaching at Salt Lake Community College, the start of a life time career ending 22 yrs later. She was a wonderful educator and an inspiration to her co-workers and students. She loved each one of them making many lifetime friends. She attained full professorship, a status very unusual for a woman in those times. She served in many capacities in the LDS church and after retirement served a mission on Temple square for many years with Fritz. Gayle developed a talent for health care and politics and became a valued member in many medical specialty boards and enjoyed serving as chairperson of the board of directors at Pioneer Valley hospital for many years. Gayle enjoyed traveling and was privileged to travel the world with Fritz and their many good friends and family members. In 2002 Gayle and Fritz decided to downsize and have loved their time living in beautiful St. George, Utah, and their many friendships there that mean so much to them. Gayle will be missed by all who called her wife, mom, grandma, grandma great, sister and friend. We know she was warmly welcomed as she passed through the veil into the arms of her loving family members and ancestors. Funeral services for Gayle will be held Saturday, Sept. 29th, 10:00 a.m., at the LDS Church, 2850 W. 3835 S, West Valley City. Viewings will be held Friday, Sept. 28th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S Redwood RD, and again Saturday at the church prior to services from 9-9:45 a.m. Interment, Richmond City Cemetery, Richmond Utah, following services.
