David Walter Brandt

February 20, 1960 — November 8, 2017

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinnersof whom I am the worst. 1 Timothy 1:15 (NIV) UVU Professor of Mathematics David Brandt was called home to heaven on November 8, 2017, following a long battle with brain cancer. He was born on February 20, 1960, in St. Louis, MO, and reborn through Holy Baptism as an infant at Hope Lutheran Church. He was confirmed in the faith at Hope on April 7, 1974. His educational pursuits took him to Rolla, MO; Champaign, IL; and Tucson, AZ. In Tucson he met and married his faithful wife of the past 26 years, Nancy nee Schneider, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, on May 26, 1991. David loved exploring God's creation (while enjoying a good cigar) through bicycle trips, backpacking trips, llama trips, canoe trips, ski trips, or any trip he could make to catch a St. Louis Cardinals game. Throughout his life, moves, and travels God lavished on David his much-needed grace and forgiveness through his Word and Sacraments. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, their two daughters Monica and Naomi Brandt, their son David Todd Brandt and daughter-in-law Heide (Rappuhn) and six grandchildren, Max, Hailey, Ella, Lillie, Abel, and Pearl. David was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia (Dautenhahn) Lange and his sister Mary Ann Loesch. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 4:00 pm, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1441 W. Tamarack Rd, Taylorsville, Utah, where David and his family have been devout members since they moved to Utah in 1992. Visitation will be at the church from 2:00 to 3:30 pm before the worship service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Prince of Peace tuition assistance funds, the Wartburg Bible translation project, or CNS Home Health and Hospice.
