William David Jennings Wallis passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024 in South Jordan, Utah. He was born January 2, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland to Dave and Helen Wallis. He had an older brother, Jim and an older sister, Toddy. The family later moved to New Jersey and in his senior year of high school, he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. William served a mission in Argentina. After returning from his mission, he graduated from Brigham Young University and later obtained an MBA degree at the University of Phoenix.
After receiving a patent on a medical device, he ran his own medical product company for five years. He began working in the medical products and pharmacy industry in 1974, retiring in 2006. In 2007 William worked with elementary school children in Special Education as a substitute teacher. The students brought him immense joy.
In 1972 William was called as a counselor in a bishopric, later serving as a counselor in three more bishoprics. His service included: Stake Mission President in two different Stakes; Stake Executive Secretary, Stake High Councilman, and High Priest Group Leader in several wards. He enjoyed teaching in Sunday School and Primary. He and his wife, Tresa, served a part-time mission at the Family History Library and a full-time two year mission in the Salt Lake City West Mission.
William served as a trustee of the Utah Scottish Association and as a Boy Scout Leader. The Wood Badge training was a delight to him. He greatly enjoyed being a Cub Master in Alabama and again in Texas.
While living in Louisiana, he worked as the Ronald Regan 1980 Campaign manager in Bossier Parish (county). In 1981 and again in 1982, William was designated an Honorary Secretary of State of Louisiana.
Expressed frequently was his gratitude to those friends and family who influenced him through their love and desire to live the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. "My Treasure Tresa" was an answer to prayer. William cherished time he served in the Jordan River Temple, and later in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.
