William Bruce Horne (1942-2026) passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, in Bountiful, Utah surrounded by loved ones on both sides of the veil, some saying goodbye for now, others saying hello again and well done. He was born on January 29, 1942, in Burley, Idaho to John Theo Horne and Freda Mae Gibson, and he lived a life marked by faith, service, and sacrifice for his family and others.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully in many callings and found deep purpose in studying and living the gospel of Jesus Christ. His testimony shaped the way he treated others-with kindness, humility, and quiet strength.

He also proudly served in the United States Army Reserve, where he developed a strong sense of duty, discipline, and patriotism that stayed with him throughout his life. Later, he dedicated many years to the Boy Scouts of America, mentoring youth, living and sharing those values, and helping countless young men grow in character and confidence. His exceptional service was recognized with the Silver Beaver Award, one of Scouting's highest honors for distinguished service.

Bruce married his eternal companion, Ruth Ann Hutchins, in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 17, 1964, sealed for time and eternity, and together they built a loving home and raised their family. After Ruth's passing on March 27, 2010, he was blessed to find companionship again with Cheryl Celaya, whom he married on August 10, 2012.

The primary focus of his career was asphalt testing and design for UDOT Region Two, which he excelled at and enjoyed. His favorite activities were fishing, watching movies, spending time with family, and serving in the Lord's temples. Bruce served in the West Central States Mission as a young Elder and later in the Michigan Lansing Mission as a Senior Couple with Ruth.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl, children Gene (Cyd), Deanne, David, Jason (Lek), Christy (Dan), Brian (Kristi), 26 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and siblings Cathy, Carma (Dave), Gary (April), Allen (Robin), Carol. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, siblings Joyce, John, and grandchild Tayler.

Those who knew him will remember his willingness to serve, kindness, dependability, and the quiet example of humility he set throughout his life. His legacy continues in the lives of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his goodness.
