Ret. Command Sgt. Major Victor Michael Adams 1951-2025
Our beloved hero and proud veteran of the United States Army, Retired Command Sergeant Major Victor "Vic" Adams, passed away peacefully on July 9th, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. A true fighter to the end, Vic battled for many years with the aftereffects of war - never giving up. His strength, determination, and love for his family carried him through every challenge.
Born on December 4th, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Victor H. and Afton Wood Adams. Vic attended Viewmont High School before joining the U.S. Army in 1971 to serve in the Vietnam War. He dedicated an astounding 34 years of his life to military service (1971-2008). After the war, Vic continued in the Army National Guard, where he rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major with the 1/211Aviation Battalion. He was deployed to Kuwait after the Persian Gulf War.
Vic was a master of Army aviation maintenance and operations, with expert knowledge of helicopters including the Apache, Black Hawk, Cobra, and Huey. He could identify a bird in flight by sound alone - and probably knew exactly what needed fixing on it too. His passion for his military service and love for the country were undeniable.
More than a soldier, Mike (family called him Mike) was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. After returning home from Vietnam, he married his best friend and lifelong love, Carolanne Farr, on November 4, 1972. They shared 53 wonderful years together.
To know Vic was to be welcomed into his ever-growing family. He had a way of adopting people into his "unit," and his home was a refuge of love, wisdom, and good humor - sometimes even bad humor - he did know a lot of real bad jokes. Vic led with gentleness, optimism, and unwavering devotion. He was a peacemaker, a listener, and a fixer of all things - not just machines, but most anything that needed fixing.
Vic is survived by his wife Carolanne; daughters Candice (Steve) Gerber and Victoria; grandchildren Amelia, Clara, Elsa, Annika, Ian, and Victor Colton.
He was preceded in death by his parents Victor Henry and Afton Wood Adams; his in-laws Carrol and Marion Farr; and his youngest brother, Paul R. Adams, whom he deeply admired and looked up to.
We are heartbroken by Vic's passing, but we celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the new journey that lies ahead for him. His legacy of service, love, and unity lives on in every life he touched.
