Vernetta Stentzel 1918~ 2011 Our angel mother, grandmother and great-grandmother has been called home to finally be with her sweetheart, Woodie , after 17 years of being apart. She passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Vernetta Wilma Fewkes Stentzel was born November 17, 1918 in View, Idaho to Ivan and Essie Dot Stallings Fewkes, the ninth of thirteen children. She always said she was raised more by her sisters than her mother because there were so many kids. She married Ellwood John Stentzel December 16, 1937; their marriage was solemnized May 25, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. Vernetta was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many ward and stake callings. She is best known for her sweetness, acts of kindness, her English toffee and devotion to living a Christ-like life. Even in the last three years, as she suffered from Alzheimers, she was happiest when she could help others. Vernetta is survived by her children: Garry (Linda) Stentzel, Sydney (George) Hacking, Claudia (Mel) Fish, and Parke (Christie) Stentzel; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Rich; brother, Harold Fewkes. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 21, 2011, 6-8 p.m. at Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State Street, Orem, UT. The funeral will be held Monday, August 22, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove 12th Ward, 828 S. Locust Avenue, Pleasant Grove, UT where friends and family may gather before the funeral from 10-10:45 a.m. to pay their final respects to Vernetta. Interment, American Fork City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer s Association. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
