Valentina Helen Tabarez Paddock

Valentina Helen Tabarez Paddock, 92, passed away on August 26, 2026, in Taylorsville, Utah. She was born on November 4, 1933, in León, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Valentina lived a remarkable life filled with family, faith, service, creativity, and love. She obtained United States citizenship while proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1955. Her military service was an important part of her life and reflected her strength, courage, and commitment to her adopted country.

In recognition of her service and dedication to her community and country, Valentina was honored to serve as the Grand Marshal of the Taylorsville Veterans Parade in 2014. This was a special honor that celebrated the contributions she made through her military service and her life as a veteran.

Valentina was a longtime member of Saint Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Taylorsville. Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life and provided her with strength, comfort, and guidance throughout the years.

Valentina was married to Roger Honsby. She is survived by Roger Dean (Mary) Hornsby, John Hornsby, Teresa Steele, daughter-in-law, Regina Hornsby Garner, Monica (Matt) Ragon, and Thomas (Norma) Hornsby. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ruby Vargas, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will lovingly cherish her memory.

Valentina was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Paddock, son, Rocky Hornsby, and by Lupe Tabarez, Jessie Tabarez, Johnny Tabarez, and Alexis Garfield.

Valentina was a very artistic and creative person who found beauty in the world around her. She loved birds, flowers, and rocks, and she enjoyed expressing her creativity through sewing. She had a deep appreciation for music and movies and enjoyed all kinds of music and films. Her many interests and creative talents were a reflection of her unique spirit and her ability to find joy in the simple things in life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Pam, Sierra, and Savannah with Auburn Crest Hospice for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided to Valentina and her family during her final days. Their support and dedication are deeply appreciated.

Funeral Services

Funeral services for Valentina Helen Tabarez Paddock will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.

Visitation: 10:00 AM

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM

Following the service, family and friends are invited to share a meal and fellowship at The Gathering Place, located at 4306 South Redwood Road, next door to McDougal Funeral Home to the north.

A graveside burial service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.

Valentina's life was one of courage, faith, service, creativity, and love. From her birthplace in León, Guanajuato, Mexico, to her years of service in the United States Marine Corps and her life in Utah, she created a legacy that will be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
