Tri Manh Nguyen

Tri Manh Nguyen, 84, passed away on August 12, 2026, at his home in Taylorsville, Utah.

Tri was born on September 1, 1941, in Bien Hoa, Vietnam. A graduate of the Vietnamese National Military Academy at Da Lat and the United States Army Ranger School, he served in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, attaining the equivalent rank of Captain (Promotable). Following the fall of Saigon in 1975, he was imprisoned and sentenced to a re-education work camp. He escaped and fled to Thailand, where he lived as a refugee before coming to the United States in 1981.

Upon arriving in Oregon, Tri rebuilt his life through determination and hard work. He established Tri Auto Repair in Murray, Utah, in 1984, which he owned and operated for decades before retiring. His shop became a fixture in the community and a testament to the resilience he carried from his years of service and survival.

Tri was a pillar of the Vietnamese Community of Utah. He was a gifted public speaker who brought energy and warmth to every event he attended. His presence commanded attention, and his leadership helped strengthen the bonds within Utah's Vietnamese-American community.

A practitioner of Buddhism throughout his life, Tri found peace in his faith. He was an avid movie enthusiast with a great collection, and he had a particular love for action films.

Tri is survived by his wife, Tam Bang Nguyen; his children, Vu Manh Nguyen, Trang Manh Nguyen, Thuc Tri Nguyen, Cuong Tri Nguyen, Tram Nguyen, Vivian T. Nguyen, Michael D. Nguyen, and William Manh Nguyen; and numerous grandchildren.

Services

A Buddhist ceremony conducted by monks will begin at 7:00 AM on Friday, August 15, 2026, at McDougal Funeral Home Gathering Hall, 4330 S Redwood Rd, Taylorsville, UT.

A public viewing will follow from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

Cremation will follow.
