Trevor John Crane, 38, of West Jordan, Utah, died on January 31, 2026, in the defense of Ukraine. Trevor lived a life defined by courage, determination, compassion, and a sharp, good natured sense of humor. He believed deeply in standing up for others and answering the call to serve, even when that call carried great risk.
Trevor is survived by his mother, Janene Gourley Burton, his father, Jared W. Crane, his brother, Jared "Todd" Crane (Jill) and his sisters, Melissa Hadfield (Benji), and Kelsey DeKlerk (Jake). He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend whose absence will be profoundly felt.
Trevor loved the outdoors. He found joy in hiking and his love of adventure carried him far beyond Utah, including a hike to the base of Mount Everest. This journey reflected both his physical endurance and curiosity about the world. Trevor loved learning history and storytelling through wargaming- meticulously painting figures that depicted the historic battles such as Waterloo and Culloden. He was especially proud of his Scottish Ancestry.
Trevor graduated from West Jordan High School, where he played goalie on the lacrosse team. He later served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Durbin, South Africa, which included nine months in Eswatini (Swaziland), where he learned to speak Zulu- a skill that would follow him throughout his life. Committed to Service, Trevor became a licensed EMT and later served as a deputy sheriff. True to his convictions, he volunteered to defend Ukraine. He trained as the Ukrainian military not as a mercenary, but as one of their own soldiers. He served for more than two and a half years in the Heavy Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine, 131st Separate Mechanized Infantry Brigade
His call name was "Zulu". Trevor was proud to defend Ukraine and to stand alongside those fighting for their homeland. He lived-and died-guided by a strong moral compass, loyalty to his comrades, and an unshakable belief in doing what he felt was right. His legacy is one of courage, service, and a life lived with purpose. He died as a hero, but more importantly he lived as a hero.
Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held on Trevor John Crane's Birthday, Friday March 27th , 2026, 2:00-4:00. P.M. The Gathering Place at Gardener Village, 1100 West 7800 South, West Jordan, Utah. 84088.
