Sijtje "Betty" Dartnell

October 9, 1937 — November 8, 2021

Sijtje (Betty) Elisabeth van der Toolen Dartnell, 84, of Taylorsville, Utah passed away peacefully on November 8, 2021.

Betty was born October 9, 1937 in Delft, The Netherlands to Gerrit and Elisabeth Hartog van der Toolen. Betty married Earl John Dartnell on April 17, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Betty had a strong conviction for her Savior, Jesus Christ and devoted her life to His teachings.  Betty was a kind, sweet, patient, and strong woman who showed compassion to all she served.  Betty grew up in The Netherlands during World War II during which she learned lessons that she always carried with her.  She moved with her parents and brother to Utah in 1951 where she met her eternal companion, Earl.  Betty’s life was filled with service, selflessness, and a deep love for her family. She raised five children while also caring for aging parents, an aunt, and later her husband. Betty was passionate about her flower garden, Irises, her family, and especially her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her five children, Alan (Stacie) Dartnell, Janet (Marty) Perschon, Ann Dartnell, Daniel Dartnell, and Mary Power.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl.

Graveside services will be held Friday, November 12, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 3401 S Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
