Shirley 88, of Magna, Utah passed away at her home with family holding her hands as she stepped softly out of our lives and onto her new path. Her only regret about passing was that she would miss all of us. Our beautiful mom, grandma, and great-grandma had a heart of gold. Everyone who got the chance to know or meet her couldn't help but love her. Even the people who helped around the house would tell us how amazing and kind she was to them. She is already missed more than words can express and we are wondering how we will get along without her. As the backbone of our family, she held us together and kept us strong.
Shirley loved life and loved her family and friends. We have many, many stories to tell about her. Knowing her, you knew that you could not stop her once she set her mind to do something - we all called her unstoppable. Oh, and was she a goer! Well into her 80's she was climbing ladders, jumping ditches, fixing all she could around the house, yard, and more.
She married the love of her life, Frank, at the age of 15, and told her mom and dad that was what she was doing whether they liked it or not. They knew they didn't stand a chance at changing her mind. By the age of 21, she had four children and enough energy to keep us all in line. As the grandkids came along, she poured her love into them all and was always there to help all of us with everything she could. She loved family get-togethers, holidays, camping, golfing, bowling, and fishing (and reeled in a lot of big fish - she said the trick was to spit on the worm). She made many precious keepsakes for all of us; blankets, quilts, and all kinds of cool stuff. She is so loved...and she will always be remembered. We will honor her memory by sharing our stories and special times, often sharing smiles and laughs, because that's what she wants us to do. Thank you so much mom and grandma - you are truly amazing!!!
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Frank of 64 years; her father, mother, and son Alan. Survived by her sister Margie; daughters Diana (Dave), Janet, Julie (Anthony); grandchildren Alisha (Lynda), Jackie (Jason), Heidi (Kory), Jennifer (Jonathan); great-grandchildren Harper (Andrew), Chloe, Mikayla, Addison, Jadyn, Emilia, Preston and Jameson; and her beloved dog Kobe, a loyal companion and expert cuddler, and his four-legged nephew and best friend Charlie.
We will celebrate her life on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, with a viewing at McDougal Funeral Home (4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah) from 1:30-2:30 PM followed by graveside services at Valley View Memorial Park at 3:00 PM (4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah).
