Rosmarie Brunold Schneider

February 6, 1930 — August 2, 2016

Rosmarie Brunold Schneider 1930-2016 Rosmarie Brunold Schneider, age 86, passed away on August 2, 2016, in Taylorsville, Utah. She was born in Sargans, Switzerland, on Feb. 6, 1930, to Bertha Utzinger and Ferdinand Hermann Brunold. As a child, she experienced the difficulties of war-torn Europe. As a young adult she graduated from business school with a secretarial degree. When Rosmarie was 20 years old she lived in England for a year to learn English while she worked as a mother's helper. After returning to Switzerland, she started meeting with the Mormon missionaries and was converted to the LDS faith. She served as mission Sunday School secretary and attended the Swiss Temple dedication. In August 1956, at age 26, Rosmarie emigrated to America. She lived in Orem and worked as a secretary in the chemistry department at Brigham Young University. She began dating Jay Allen Schneider of Clearfield, with whom she had become acquainted when he was serving an LDS mission in Switzerland. During their courtship in the days before I-15 and text messaging and when a long-distance phone call required talking to an operator they saw each other every other week, and wrote letters, in German, to each other (a dating culture not at all understood by her grandchildren). On Aug. 30, 1957, she married Jay in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with five children. Rosmarie and Jay lived in Taylorsville for most of their married life. Rosmarie spent her life serving her family as a wife, mother, homemaker and grandmother. She also served countless other souls through her decades-long work as a volunteer genealogist for the LDS Church. Rosmarie served faithfully in a number of LDS Church callings, including Relief Society presidency counselor and secretary, ward librarian, and ward and stake Blazer leader (now referred to as 11-year-old Scouts), and she enjoyed her friends in the ward. She served on the Plymouth Elementary School PTA board. Her hobbies were reading, knitting, putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing ping pong, going on walks with her neighborhood friends, and eating Swiss chocolate. Her homemade cookies will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband; son David (Carma), Murray; daughter Judy (Phil) Allen, Orem; son Glen, Orem; son Ronald, New York City; son Thomas (Melissa), Sandy; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Rosmarie was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Bernhard and Armin Brunold; and one grandson, Scott Allen. A viewing will be held at the LDS Taylorsville 30th Ward meetinghouse, 4950 S. 1950 West, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W. 4100 South, West Valley City.
