Ronald Willard Bishop

February 27, 1934 — January 11, 2022

Ronald Bishop

Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, peacefully returned to his Father in Heaven Monday, January 11, 2022, in Sandy, Utah, and was reunited with his parents, wife, daughter, brothers and friends.

Ron was born February 27, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah to LeRoy Shreiber Bishop and Hazel Ruth Bullough.

He had a difficult and challenging childhood. His mother Ruth died when he was five years old, after which he lived in foster homes with his brother Bobby for several years. His other two brothers lived in different foster homes. When he was nine years old, his brother Bobby was tragically killed in an accident in which Bobby saved Ron’s life. Tragedy soon struck again; Ron’s father died when Ron was 14 years old.

Ron and Molly met when they attended West High School, from which they both graduated. Molly lived in foster care and had a difficult childhood also. With Molly, Ron found a kindred spirit and realized he wasn’t the only one with a difficult childhood. They soon fell deeply in love and decided to get married even though they were teenagers. They decided to be married in the temple even though neither of them were active in church. They couldn’t imagine being married “until death do us part “. They worked hard and became worthy and were married in the Salt Lake Temple February 26, 1954, and spent 62 loving years together until Molly passed away in 2016. Ron was never quite the same after her passing, he missed her dearly.

They raised four children: Kerry, Bret, Suzie and Kori.

Ron loved playing fast pitch softball which he played for several years. He was extremely skilled and was routinely chosen as an all-star.

His true passion was hunting and fishing. His greatest joy was hunting and fishing with his family. As he got older, he spent much of his time fishing and golfing. He loved to take his personal pontoon boat to Strawberry Reservoir, where he caught countless fish.

Ron and Molly served together as temple workers for many years and grew to absolutely love the temple.

Ron is survived by children; Kerry (Judy), Bret (Cheryl), Kori; grandchildren, Kyle, Kami, Dana Jr., Kristi, Brooklyn, Kevin, Deana, Blake, Brynlee and Ava; 19 great grandchildren; and a brother, Roy.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers; and his daughter, Suzie Starkey (Dana Sr.).

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Soltice Senior Living and Harmony Health and Hospice for their considerate and loving care for Ron over the past year.
