After a long and difficult battle with cancer, Robert L. Westerman (known as Bob) passed away peacefully at his home on June 29, 2025, with his loving wife and family by his side.
Robert was born on December 27, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jonathan and Eva May Westerman. He met the love of his life, Gritta, at just 15 years old, and they became inseparable. They were married on November 26, 1971.
After graduating high school, Robert and his buddies dove into the motorcycle world. They loved to ride, and even more, they loved to chop and build their own badass choppers. Riding became part of his lifestyle, and he lived for it. Everyone admired his bikes and his unique riding style, he was a natural, he was gifted at turning junk into something cool. He could fix anything. He always told his son Eddy, "Stock bikes are garbage wagons. They have way too much stuff on them they don't need."
In 1969, Robert joined the Army Reserves and honorably served for 20 years until his retirement in 2012. His family is incredibly proud of his service. During his time in the Army, he attended ITT Tech and became a certified auto mechanic. He advanced quickly and was even asked to teach others, a role he gladly took on. He was awarded a toolbox for being the first Ford ASSET student, which helped launch the Ford career program for others.
This marked the beginning of a 35-year career at Ford (Rick Warner Ford), where he proudly worked as a Triple Masters Auto Technician.
Later, Robert and Gritta opened their family owned and operated business, The Deli Way, known for its good times, amazing food, and a German touch.
After leaving Ford, Robert landed his dream job working with DNR. Surprise, still as an auto - everything - mechanic! He traveled to parks and recreation areas fixing ATVs, boats, and more, and truly loved every moment. He retired in 2020.
Even with a busy work life, Robert always made time for fun. Whether it was hiking, fishing, hunting, or taking the Minnie Winnie and boat up to the lake with family and friends, he cherished those moments. He especially loved cooking for everyone; he was a true breakfast connoisseur.
Robert was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He made countless lifelong friends, and his strength, wisdom, and kindness will continue to inspire generations to come.
He is preceded in death by his oldest son, Robby; his parents; and his siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 wonderful years, Gritta Biebau Westerman; his dear sister Barbara Carlson; his best friend and brother-in-law Fred Biebau; and his loving sister-in-law Doris Biebau.
