Robert Eldredge Hanks (Bob), 66, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at IMC following a valiant fight against pulmonary fibrosis and heart disease. He was the recipient of a heart transplant in the fall of 2013 which allowed him to spend a few more precious years with his family, for which we are all eternally grateful to both the doctors and donor family. Bob was born and raised in Salt Lake City. He graduated from South High School, and later served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in London, England. After marrying his high school sweetheart Maxeen in 1972, they raised their boys together in Sandy, UT. He ran his own business, Alta View Appliance Service, successfully for over 35 years. He loved to work and he loved his customers. He loved serving his community most of all and was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, including in a bishopric. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and the knowledge that his family will be together forever. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bob loved to play with his grandchildren and enjoyed supporting his grandchildren by attending their games, recitals, and various activities. He loved camping and spending time with his family. He also had a passion for history and world events and is well known for his lively debates. He was preceded in death by his parents Edith and Edward Dean Hanks; his brothers Edward Dean Jr., John, and Don; and his sister Deanna. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Maxeen (Jeppson) Hanks; his sons Jason (April), Justin (Monica), Tim (Nimisha), and Tommy (Mercedes); eleven grandchildren; his brother Gordon Hanks; his two dogs, Jim and Baby. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 24, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Union 6th Ward, 1433 East Old Mission Road (7930 S.) where a viewing will be held prior to services from 12:30-1:45 p.m. Interment, Mountain View Memorial Estates.
