Ray Wayman

Ray Walter Wayman passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on May 27, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Ray was born on August 20, 1948, in Price, Utah, the third and middle child to Clarence and Hazel Wayman. His family moved up north where he graduated from Granite High School. During this time a pretty girl that lived down the street caught his eye, and he knew that Johanna Aalders was the one for him. Ray and Johanna dated for 6 months before they were married on August 18, 1967, in West Valley City, Utah at the ages of 17 and 18.

Shortly after they were married, Ray was drafted into the United States Army where he served for 2 years. He attended basic training in St. Louis, Missouri and ATI at Fort Huachuca in Arizona before getting stationed in Texas where they stayed for 6 months before he was shipped off to Vietnam to serve in the Vietnam war. He served in Vietnam for approximately a year as a specialist before returning home to the states and his wife.

Ray and Johanna had 2 children together, Jimmy who was born on February 25, 1973, and Kerrie who was born on July 27, 1976. They bought their house in Sandy, Utah in 1974, where they raised their children and made memories for the 57 (nearly 58) years they were married.

He worked for D&H Steel for 29 years as a trucker, sales associate, and purchasing agent before moving on to another job at Wells Fargo where he was a trucker for 3 more years. He then went to work for Central Valley Water and Reclamation facility as a trucker where he stayed for 16 years until his retirement.

Ray enjoyed a number of things while he was here, but his heart was in the outdoors with his family. He was a big outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting deer, elk, antelope, and especially pheasant. He spent a lot of his time scrapping, watching monster movies, four-wheeling, boating, scuba diving, going on motorcycle rides, traveling the world, and going on cruises with friends and family.

Ray and Johanna went on 12 cruises where they visited Hawaii, Australia, Morea, Tahiti, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Alaska, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, the Mexican Riviera, The Pacific Islands, Costa Maya, Belize, Roatan, Cozumel, Thomas St. Martin and many more. He took his family on trips to Isla Mujeres, Cancun, Dinosaur Land in Vernal, Las Vegas, Nevada, Lake Powell, Wendover, white water rafting in the Colorado River, and numerous camping trips at their property in Fruitland that they bought in 1999. You could always tell where Ray had been because he would keep a bar of soap from every location he visited.

Ray is preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence Walter Wayman and Hazel Mary Atwood, his older brother David, his older sister Ann, and his baby brother Benny.

He is survived by his beloved wife Johanna, his two children Jimmy and Kerrie, his younger sister Jeannie, his 6 grandchildren Westin, Dalton, Tinnielle, Jade, Gemma, and Cisco as well as his 2 great-grandchildren Asher and Mila.

There will be a viewing for family and friends on Wednesday June 4, 2025, at McDougal Funeral Home located at 4330 S. Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah from 11am-12pm. The graveside service will take place after at Valley View Memorial Park located at 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City Utah.
