Paul Floyd Walker was born on July 18, 1941, in Salt Lake City and passed away at the age of 83 on May 17, 2025, at Intermountain Hospital in Murray, surrounded by loved ones.
Paul was adopted as a baby and raised in Tooele, Utah as an only child with his forever family, Floyd and Ester Walker. Paul married his sweetheart, Lorna Mae Erickson, on August 22, 1964, in Tooele after knowing each other for only 2 months, but have shared almost 61 glorious years together. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children; Kenneth, Bradley, Melvin, and Karen. Paul spent his time in Tooele working at the Army Depot as an electrician for 14 years. After an injury he was forced to retire and became a school bus driver for Granite School District for 25+ years where he was a favorite of many children.
In Paul's life he did many things. He liked being affiliated with the Police Department. After he got married, he joined jeep patrol with the department rescuing people. He also trained to be a scuba diver and was one of the very few called out to dive for Rescue and Retrieving Drowned Victims.
After buying their home in Kearns in 1965, Paul was asked to be a Scoutmaster. He received his Eagle Scout in 1955 and was a recipient of a Silver Beaver Award in 1972. In his years as Scoutmaster through the scouting program he helped many boys achieve Eagle Scout awards along with being on the scouts board. He umpired softball and many other activities as he always wanted to be a good leader and have a positive effect on the youth. In 1969, after becoming active in the LDS Church, Paul and Lorna got married in the Salt Lake Temple and had their children sealed to them.
Paul was in charge of the Bee Project for many years for the Western Hills 1st Ward Welfare Program. He received a Certificate of Appreciation for Recruiting from the US Navy in 1988.
He was well known around the Kearns Community and was Vice Chairman and later Chairman for Kearns town council for 20 years. He served on countless projects. He has received awards and recognition from the community including the Citzen Service Award from Salt Lake County Sheriff in 2001-2002. In January 2011 he served in the Addiction Recovery Mission until January 2013. He was a Hunter Education Range Office and Teacher at LeeKay Center for several years.
Paul headed the development of the 9-11 Memorial Park in Kearns.. The park was put up in September 2, 2002, in honor of the fallen and was renamed the Paul F Walker 9-11 Memorial Park in April of 2006. For his service to the community the Mayor of Kearns put the Flag at half mast on May 17, 2025, to honor his memory.
Paul and Lorna's reward in life was enjoying 29 cruises and having their 30th scheduled together with family and friends. They enjoyed learning and seeing different countries and cultures. Other rewards in life include their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild. At the time of his death, he was serving as a family history missionary along with Temple work. It was because of his interest in family history, through DNA research he was able to find his biological family. He was so excited to learn he had siblings and other relatives which he was able to create and build relationships with.
Paul is survived by his wife Lorna M Walker and his children Kenneth Walker (Debi), Bradley Walker (Lenona), Melvin Walker (Cindy), and Karen Walker (Bryan Elkins), along with 22 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Esther Walker, daughter-in-law Suzanne (Suzie) and granddaughter Aleah.
Services will be held at the Western Hills LDS Church, 5380 West 5400 South, Kearns, Utah. Viewing will be held May 28, 2025, 6-8:00 p.m. An additional viewing will be held May 29, 2025, 10:00 a.m. with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held in Tooele, Utah at the Tooele City Cemetery, 361 South 100 East, Tooele, Utah.
