Orson Eugene Powell, 91, of Kearns, Utah, passed away June 22, 2023, in West Jordan, Utah. He was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Price, Utah, to Maud Edna Quinn and Orson M Powell. He was the 2nd of 9 children. He married Cleo Anderson January 5, 1953, in the Manti Utah Temple.
Dad entered the Marines January 5, 1951, and served his country well. When he came home 3 years later, he found employment installing curbs and gutters, working at the Power Plant, Union Pacific, Gallager Co, Thiokol Co, and Hercules.
Dad attended Carbon College and the University of Utah and majored in Engineering.
He loved to go camping and hunting to provide food for his family, and always made sure that everyone was fed and full. He loved us all very much. When reunion time came he would set up a red and white circus tent where everyone could congregate and enjoy one another.
He loved nature and couldn't be away from it too long. He would get mom and drive up the canyon to see the beauty of God's hand.
Dad served his whole life in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous callings. The callings he enjoyed most were serving as a Bishop for 8 1/2 years, being a seventy doing missionary work, and serving on the High Council three different times. Both mom and dad thoroughly enjoyed their mission to San Jose, California, and for many years they were Temple Workers in the Jordan River Temple.
Dad knew from a very young age that service is the key to returning to his Heavenly Father. And he was the happiest when he was serving.
The family would like to thank Sunridge Assisted Living Center for their kindness and care they provided to our Father.
Survived by his six children, Larry (Christine) Powell, Gayle (Jack) Nell, Trent (Cindee) Powell, Kevin (Keelee) Powell, Cheryl (Blaine) Sorensen, Michael Powell, and Shirley Wilkey; Sisters, EllaDean (Newton) Carleton, and Linda (Robert) Jewkes.
