Vard was born to George Ira and Vivian Elvena Wells on April 23, 1935 in Elmo Utah, Vard was the 5th of 6 children. His family lived in Carbon and Emery Counties where he learned and developed a strong work ethic, and the value of honesty and integrity. Vard married Billie Miller on June 25, 1954 in the Manti Temple. They started their family in Wellington, Utah. Later moving their family to Bountiful and finally to Taylorsville, Utah to establish Wells House Moving Co., where they were the primary house mover of residences for the construction of the Interstate 15, Interstate 80, and 7th East. As a faithful member of the LDS church, he served as an Elders Quorum President, Bishop, High Counselor, Missionary and Temple Worker. Vard loved his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. He was a fan of all things BYU; he loved being outdoors where he loved to hunt and visit the Arches and hike the deserts of southern Utah.
