Mildred Dillon Brown

On May 22, 2026, our much-loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mildred Dillon Brown, passed from this life to the next part of her eternal journey.

Mildred was born on November 18, 1935, in Kamas, Utah, in the Dillon family home. She was the daughter of Leo and Emily Dillon. At the age of six, Leo, Emily, and their family moved to the Avenues of Salt Lake City, where they lived for five years. They later moved to Taylorsville (4800 South) when Mildred was entering the fifth grade. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Larry Brown. Mildred would often ride on the crossbar of Larry's bike to and from school.

On June 27, 1958, Mildred and Larry were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder LeGrand Richards. They spent the next 68 years building a life centered on love, devotion, and family.

Together, they raised and loved five children: Michael, Lauri, Darrin, Janalee, and Shawn. Mildred enjoyed reading, writing, and cross-stitching. She could often be found curled up with a good book or working on a cherished cross-stitch project.

Family was at the heart of Mildred's life. There were many family trips-most involving camping in the mountains, hunting, fishing, or attending family reunions. In her later years, she and Larry were able to travel both within and outside the United States, visiting places such as Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, and Canada. With her love of history, these trips often included visits to historical sites.

Mildred especially cherished time with her grandchildren. During the summer months, when school was out, there were often one or more grandchildren at her home-helping in the garden, preparing the harvest for winter, playing games, or simply enjoying time together.

Her professional life included various clerical positions in her early years. Later, she worked alongside Larry at Registered Physical Therapy as the business office manager. However, her greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mildred faithfully served in many capacities within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She was also passionate about Family History research and in sharing her discoveries with all members of her family. In 2002, she and Larry were called to serve a mission in the Asia Area, Hong Kong Mission. There, Mildred served as the branch clerk for a primarily Filipino sister branch. Sacrament meetings were held every day of the week except Sunday. She was lovingly known as "Mommy Brown" by the sisters in the branch.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Larry D. Brown; her five children: Michael (Janet) Brown, Lauri (Victor) Thomas, Darrin (Debi) Brown, Janalee (Erik) Grover, and Shawn (Tiffanie) Brown; her siblings Reid Dillon (brother), Deanna Bunnell (sister), and Jack Dillon (brother); as well as 37 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Emily Dillon; her brother Boyd Dillon; and her granddaughter Krista Grover.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Amber, her hospice nurse, and to the entire hospice staff for the compassionate care, kindness, and comfort they provided during Mildred's final days.
