Mildred Alene Dunn Barlow graduated with honors from this world at 104 years old and passed away surrounded by her family on Friday, September 12, 2025. Her life has been filled with love, family, and many stories. Her mind was sharp enough to share those stories with incredible detail to all who visited to the very end.
Mildred was born August 23, 1921, in Coolidge, Georgia to Marvin Sisroe and Mary Etta Dunn. She was the youngest of five children. She attended school in both Thomas and Colquitt counties and graduated in 1939.
Mildred met Lincoln Barlow on a blind date. Neither had dated very much and it was the only blind date for both of them. They were married on August 12, 1939, at the courthouse in Moultrie, Georgia and began their incredible love story. In 1941 they met the "Mormon Missionaries" and were baptized as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 12, 1942, and started the first branch of the church in Moultrie, Georgia. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 11, 1947. They welcomed six children into their incredible family and raised them in a Christ-centered home.
Lincoln and Mildred served in many church callings, too numerous to mention here. After retirement they served as missionaries in the New York Rochester Mission and were tour guides at the Martin Harris Home and Hill Cumorah. After they returned from their mission they served as ordinance workers in the Atlanta Temple. They would travel 220 miles to the temple, stay in Atlanta for two weeks working their shift each day and then go home for two weeks. They did this for nearly three years. They showed us how to walk the Covenant Path and left a legacy of service, affecting all those around them and for generations to come. Several years after Lincoln passed, Mildred moved to Utah at the age of 90 and built her community, influencing many people just as she had in Georgia.
The Barlow Family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Cheryl Eaton, hairdresser extraordinaire, who kept Grandma's hair perfect with a bow for each week for 14 years. We also would like to thank Intermountain Hospice, specifically Cassie and Dolores, for their exceptional care. Mildred had been a hospice and hospital volunteer in Moultrie after her husband died and greatly valued their work.
Mildred is survived by her son Keith (Colleen), daughter Debbie Presnell (Gregg), and daughter-in-law Marilyn (Farrell). She has 27 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lincoln, daughter Brenda Ann, son Farrell, daughter Edris (Butch), and son Ricky (Capri).
A viewing will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11:00 am with the funeral starting at 12:00 pm at the LDS Church at 7115 South 3200 West in West Jordan, Utah. Interment will be on September 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Westview Cemetery in Moultrie, Georgia next to her beloved Lincoln.
