Michelle Maughan

Our sweet Michelle Maughan, 44, passed away unexpectedly in presence of loved ones on January 20, 2026, in Layton Utah.
Michelle was born August 12, 1981, in Orlando, Florida.

At the age of 12 we were blessed to welcome Michelle into our forever family. She was the last of the nine children but the third from the youngest.

She loved attending Hartvigsen Secondary School, where she formed some of her greatest friendships amongst staff and students.
She also enjoyed participating in Special Olympics in basketball, and track and field. She especially loved winning her medals, no matter the color; they were her pride and joy.

Michelle loved to serve those around her. She was blessed to serve as a service missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving at Hartvigsen seminary. She also loved volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house, the Food pantry, Meals on Wheels, and Petco.

Michelle always kept our family on our toes. We loved all her pranks and antics. We will miss all our silly little nicknames she would give each of us, even if it was Hot Dog and her funny threat to give us all a knuckle sandwich. She had us always laughing. Everyone who knew her loved her.

Michelle loved her friends and staff at her group homes and day programs like they were family -- especially Wide Horizons where she was for 12 years. We want to publicly thank them for their love and care they shared with our sweet girl.

Michelle was survived by her parents Judy and Jim Maughan, biological mom Bradley Kelly Schrader and her 8 siblings, Cortley, Lori, Vicki (Jeremiah), Chantil, Marianne (Rodney), Danny, Shelley (Alan), and Alex.
She was the best Aunt to her 21 nieces and nephews, and a Great-Aunt to her 9 great-nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her grandparents Dirk and Aileen Roothoff, and Cortley and Wanda Maughan.

Michelle's life mission was to keep us all laughing. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Viewing and funeral will be held at McDougal Funeral Home at 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. The viewings will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Friday January 30, 2026, from 11:00-11:45 am. The Funeral will be held Friday, January 30, 2026, from 12:00-1:00 pm. Immediately after we will have a Graveside Service held at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.
