Michael Sherman Buchanan, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, moving on from this life to the next part of his spiritual journey.
Born Feb 2nd, 1945, Michael lived a full life. After serving in the United States Navy, he attended school, earning his Master's Degree in Performing Arts from Pepperdine University. He became a teacher, teaching music, band, and mathematics. Mike loved the outdoors and used his summer breaks exploring and working as a park ranger at many of the U.S. National Parks. He left teaching and became a police officer, working for Utah Highway Patrol, West Valley City, and the City of Bountiful.
Along his journey through life, Mike raised a family of four children; Adrienne, Chris, Ross, and Taryn. He always gave everything selflessly, to provide everything he could for his family. He saw his children grow, and eventually became an amazing, caring, and loving grandfather. Throughout his many adventures, he made many friends; a few of them becoming friends for life.
Mike was always very interested in history; especially Naval history. He was constantly reading about old warships, or watching documentaries on historic naval battles. Also, he was quite a motorcycle enthusiast. He rode everywhere he could. His riding would range from cruising around town to epic, cross-country rides. He loved riding throughout the southwestern U.S., and collecting Native American art along the way. He always seemed to learn about the artists, and hear the stories behind the art. He loved sharing these stories and telling the tales of his adventures.
Michael is survived by his children, Adrienne, Chris, Ross, and Taryn; 7 grandchildren; his brothers Glide and David; sister Debbie; and many close friends.
A memorial service in Michael's honor will be held at The Gathering Hall, 4306 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville, Utah. The service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.
