Melba Brunson Knighton

August 31, 1934 — November 8, 2020

Last night on November 8, 2020 our mother's journey came to its conclusion.  She was released from her earthly body and struggles, reuniting with her husband, Howard and her son, Brian along with many others that had gone on before her.  She was born of great parents, Frances Marion Brunson and Melva Wilson and was the caboose of her family.

Her mother had a bad heart, so she had to grow up fast.  She would need to have dinner on the table for her Dad when he got home from work.  She could cook a little by the time she was five, but not always well.  She made the family some cookies and was so proud of herself until they all started spitting them out.  She had put a DISH of salt instead of a dash of salt.

She married her sweetheart on November 10, 1951, and later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple.  They had six children:  Terrie, Laurie, Susan, Brian, Douglas and Starla, 25 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

They served in many different callings for their church.  One of their most cherished ones was serving and loving the people in Nashville, Tennessee on their mission.

When her oldest daughter, Terrie, had her first grandchild, Melba smiled, welcoming Terrie into the grandma club, and said, "You are the plain grandma and I have GREAT in my name."

One of our brother Doug's favorite memories was of mom always tucking him in at night and giving him a kiss.  His day was not complete until he got that good night kiss.  It was Susan's privilege to tuck Mom in bed the last few months and give her a kiss good night.  We all had the choice opportunity to give her a kiss of comfort as she slipped away from us into her family's loving arms who had all passed on before her and was greeted by our loving Savior.  We wish we could have seen that amazing reunion.

Mom could always make you feel better just by being in her presence.  Anyone who has ever met her could feel her kind and unselfish heart and loved her.  I'm sure the Savior is returning all the love that she gave to her little corner of the world.  She wasn't perfect, not one of us is, but she was pretty perfect for us.

Until we meet again, we will hold you in our hearts.  We will love you Mom, Grandma, and Grandma Great.

Private family services will be held under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
