Maurine Mackay Hill passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, after a long battle with dementia. Maurine was 84 years old.
Maurine was born on January 20,1942, to Darrell and Belva Mackay in Murray, Utah. She spent her young life on the family farm in the Bennion, Utah area and graduated from Granger High School. Maurine then went on to attend the University of Utah and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Science in Education. It was at the "U" that she met her husband, Farron J. Hill. They married July 10, 1964. She spent the next 3 years teaching elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah and Pampa, Texas. Maurine and Farron then moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where they lived for several years before returning to Utah and building their 'forever' home in West Valley City.
Maurine was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She dedicated her life to creating a comfortable and well-kept home for her family. She loved to sew, cross-stitch, and toll paint, and used her skills to decorate her home. She used her teaching and homemaking skills in her many callings for her church. Some of these included Relief Society President, Homemaking Leader, and Young Women's President. Maurine and Farron also served a part-time service mission for their church.
In her later years, as dementia set in with a vengeance, Maurine became a resident of Legacy Memory Care Center in Taylorsville, Utah. She lived the last year and a half of her life being cared for by the lovely and talented staff of this facility. Maurine and her family are very grateful for the love and care she received there.
Maurine will be missed more than words can express.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Belva Mackay, her in-laws Thomas Vern and Carrissa Hill, her brother Larry Mackay, brother-in-law Larry and David Hill, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Hill.
