Matthew Tanner

February 29, 1972 — February 5, 2024

Matt made his entrance into this world February 29, 1972, making him a Leap Year baby, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

One of many joys Matt brought was his sense of humor and witty jokes to all he met. Matt loved fishing, pyrography (the art of design burned into wood), sketching, spending time at the cabin -- which according to him was his and not his parents -- but most importantly he loved to share his knowledge and skills with those around him. Since entering this world Matt has been a Star Wars fanatic (regardless of what his family thought of the films). He went as far as dressing up in costume and participating in parades and charity events with the 501st Garrison, a group dedicated to charities of all manners.

Matt was proud of his work at West Valley City and South Jordan City as an I.T technician. One of his many hobbies was computers and technology. He always strived to learn new technologies and systems to remain at the top of his field. He would never shy away from sharing his knowledge with friends and family, fixing many computers for his friends, but his dad's computer the most often. Matt was proud to be an Eagle Scout. He was proud to assist with the work of Emergency Services. He was honored to be named the employee of the year at West Valley City, but he was most proud of being a husband, a father, a brother, and a son.

Matt married the love of his life Tricia Smith and together they had 28 wonderful years. Together they raised their son Tyrell who they could not be more proud of. Matt has battled heath complications the past three years. He has fought daily to regain the needed strength to return to the life he loved. Through his past struggles he has received so much love, generosity, and support from so many who loved him, and for this we are forever grateful.

Matt unexpectedly passed away on February 5, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Matt is still loved on earth by his wife Tricia, his son Tyrell, his parents Sue and Allen, his brother Andy (Hollie), his favorite sister Kari Jaramillo (David), as well as his five nieces & nephews, his mother-in-law Kathie Smith, and his brother-in-law Josh Smith.

His dogs Sackett and Jay will deeply miss their morning cuddles.

We could not end this tribute without saying MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU all.

There will be a viewing Monday, February 12, 2024, from 5-8 PM held at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.
