Mary Simpson

Mary (Marietta) Simpson, aged 78, passed away peacefully at her home in West Jordan, Utah, on September 16, 2026 after a prolonged illness.

Born on February 25, 1948, to the late Elva Etta Grant and Ernest Artell Grant, Mary lived a life filled with deep devotion to her family, a love for adventure, and a spirited enthusiasm for her favorite pastimes. She was a generous soul who loved gifting friends and family.

Mary found great joy in staying active and meeting new people. She loved everyone and treated all she met like family. Mary cherished her time spent playing softball and bowling, as well as being a youth coach for volleyball, basketball, and softball to the kids in her neighborhood. She valued sharing her love of sports, as well as instilling kindness and good sportsmanship into everyone she coached. An avid traveler who loved new adventures and experiences, her favorite place to visit was Hawaii, where she created countless treasured memories surrounded by family and close friends. Above all else, Mary’s greatest pride was her family, which grew to include 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving children: Patty (Robert) Wayman, Rick (Tonya) Simpson, Greg (Andrea) Simpson, Jeff (Teresa) Simpson, and Brian (Amber) Simpson; her siblings Michael Lloyd Grant and David Guy Grant and many extended family members.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Elva Etta Grant and Ernest Artell Grant, and her brothers Ernest (LeRoy) Grant, Robert Lynn Grant, and Brent Maurice Grant.
