Mary Lorene Rantz

November 4, 1935 — March 16, 2022

Our sweet loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Mary Lorene Rantz, passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

Mary (“Lorene” to all of her siblings) was born on November 4, 1935, in Emery, Utah to Wilson Warren Anderson and Annie Amelia Albrechtsen. Being the second child of eight born to her parents (and being the sixth child of their blended family), she hit the ground running from day one. Always the caregiver, she blessed the lives of each of her siblings and those around with an abundance of kindness and love.

She married Richard Dean Larson on December 2, 1959. Together they had two sons and one daughter … Kenneth Warren, Dennis Todd and Wendy Marie.  Sadly, they were parted when he died on September 24, 1968.

In 1970 Mary met and married Robert Ross Rantz on August 2, 1970.  They had many happy years together as they raised their family in Fremont, California. They moved to West Valley City in September 1980 to be closer to many of their extended family members. After being together for over 39 happy years, Bob died on May 30, 2009.

Mary was a “jack of all trades”. She worked in a deli, as a waitress in many different restaurants, and as an in-home tax accountant. Upon moving to Utah, she worked for the Department of Workforce Services in their accounting department and retired after 20 years of service in 1997.

Generous to a fault, mom was the epitome of selfless service. Throughout her lifetime she generously gave of her time, talents, and financial resources to lend a helping hand to many, without fanfare or fuss. She loved to cook and host family and friends and made our house a beautiful and safe place to call home.

Her love for our Heavenly Father and Savior, Jesus Christ, was apparent in all she did and the many acts of service she gave. Her example was a beacon to all those who knew and loved her.

The family wishes to thank nurses Debi, Becky, Karissa and Jonathan, and aides Lisa, Darci, Maria and Crystal. Their loving hands and hearts and kind attention to care were appreciated more than words can express. We also wish to thank Balbina Paul for her happy disposition in giving mom the queen’s treatment every Thursday for 12 years on what would become Mom’s only fun outing for the week. She looked forward to getting her hair “done” and hated missing even one visit.

Mary is survived by her children - Ken (Jackie) Larson, Dennis (Angie) Larson and Wendy (Ron) Weixler; her grandchildren - Devan, Garrett, Amelia (Quinn), Cassie (Jonathan), and Tina; and her great-grandchildren - Desi and Lincoln. She is also survived by her siblings Gene (Cynthia) Anderson, Ida (Ken) Roylance and Lavona (John) Hutchins; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; 9 siblings; Richard Dean Larson; and Robert Rantz.

Funeral services to be held Friday, March 18, 2022, 1:00pm, location: 20th Ward - 107 G Street, Salt Lake City, Utah; viewing from 12:00-12:45pm prior to service. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery. Services directed by McDougal Funeral Home.
