Mary Jo Anton-Goins

Mary Jo was the first born of John Louis Anton and Helen Shool Anton. She grew up in Sugar House attending St. Ann's, St Mary of the Wasatch, and graduated from Judge Memorial High School in 1971. She went on to graduate from the Continental College of Beauty and was a cosmetologist for over 40 years until she fully retired in 2020. She had close relationships with many of her treasured clients. 

Mary Jo married Wadell Goins, whom she later divorced, and together they adopted their only child, Alexandra. Mary Jo was passionate about her Maronite Catholic faith and Lebanese heritage which led to a visit to Lebanon with her daughter in 2002. Mary Jo had a fantastic sense of humor and always wanted to brighten the day of those around her with a joke. She was known for her good luck, whether it be at the poker machines in Wendover or Las Vegas, or at finding the best parking spot. She was very devoted to her family and will be deeply missed.

Mary Jo passed away at the age of 69 on November 4, 2022, in Salt Lake City.

Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Anton; her aunt, Alice Shool; and her uncle, Joseph Shool. 

She is survived by her daughter, Alexandra; brothers, John (Tammy) and James (Tammy); sister Theresa (Dave); nieces Amber (Bob), Chelsie (Afshin), Anna; nephews Kevin, Phillip, and Kameron; great-nephews Thomas and Caspian; and great-niece Eve. Mary Jo is also survived by her former husband, Wadell.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Maronite Catholic Church, 5445 S 2700 W, Taylorsville, UT 84129. 

Burial will follow services at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 275 U St, Salt Lake City, UT 84103.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mary Jo's name to St. Jude Maronite Catholic Church.
