Mark Ellis Hatch

February 8, 1936 — September 23, 2025

Mark Ellis Hatch, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, returning to a loving Father in Heaven. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Mark lived a life marked by dedication-to his work, his family, his faith, and the many people whose lives he touched.

Born on February 8, 1936, in Panguitch, Utah, Mark was the son of Mary Ellen Tebbs Hatch and Millard Hatch. He was the middle of nine children in a large, close-knit family and a supportive community that shaped his strong work ethic and enduring values. Life on the farm taught him dedication, cooperation, compassion, and patience. At Panguitch High School, Mark stood out as a leader and athlete-serving as Student Body President, Vice President of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), and captain of the basketball team. He also competed in baseball, track and field, and participated in various student organizations.

After high school, Mark pursued higher education at the University of Utah where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting. He became a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.), launching a career that would span decades. Nearly all of his adult life was spent running his own private practice in Salt Lake City. Mark's commitment to his clients went far beyond numbers; he was known not only for his professional excellence but also for being a confidant and true friend to many. His passion for his work never waned-he continued operating his practice through 2024.
On February 16, 1957, at 21 years of age, Mark married Leona Larson in Henderson, Nevada; later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on December 3, 1974. Their union lasted over 68 years-a testament to their deep love and unwavering partnership. Together they built a family rooted in faith and mutual respect.

Throughout his life, Mark was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in various callings and remained steadfast in both belief and service.
Beyond his professional life, Mark found joy in many pursuits. In his younger years, he embraced the outdoors through hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he especially loved watching basketball, football, and baseball. He also cherished traveling with his wife, exploring new places together. One of his greatest pleasures was gardening-his yard was always vibrant and full of life, a reflection of the care and attention he brought to everything he did.

Mark was committed to his family and took pride in supporting his children and grandchildren in their various activities. He attended numerous sporting events, dance recitals, and theater productions to show his encouragement. Significant family milestones-including marriages, missionary farewells, baby blessings, and graduations-were a source of great joy in his life.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife Leona Larson Hatch; daughter Susan Lake (Craig); daughter-in-law Julie Hatch; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren (and counting); sister Mamie Christiansen; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Millard and Mary Ellen Hatch; son Mark Ellis Hatch Jr.; sisters Norma and Lida; brothers Wendell, Lyle, Carvel, Claude, and Bruce.

Mark's legacy is one of integrity, kindness, hard work, and enduring love-for his family, faith, and community. Those who knew him will miss him deeply.
