Beloved wife, mother, and grand-mother Marilyn Penrose Askie passed away peacefully in her home with her husband of 43 years at the age of 82 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Salt Lake City to Orpha and Elwood Penrose on November 14th, 1939. She lived in Utah almost all her life and on September 4th, 1978, married husband Buddy Askie. They were sealed in the LDS temple on June 5th, 1993. Marilyn worked as secretary in the insurance industry for most of her younger years, then after adopting her son, transitioned to a stay-at-home mom.
Marilyn is survived by her husband and son, Rafael Askie. She is also survived by her extended stepfamily Rob & Pam Scott, Scott & Sheri Askie, and Amy Jo Scott. Marilyn was the proud grandmother to 6 grandchildren (Preston, Coryelle, Wille, Ancell, Emily, and Jayden)
Marilyn was known for being a talented quilter. She joined the Epsilon Sigma Alpha philanthropic sorority in December of 1970. She was a member of the Delta Omega and Alpha Alpha Chapter for over 50 years. Marilyn was also in the Utah Quilt Guild for over 27 years, where she was active in the Sugarhouse Quilters and Quilting sisters’ group.
She also loved to travel with her husband and their two pets (Baxter and Portia). She loved camping, rafting, trips to Moab, and 4 wheeling.
She will always be remembered for being a kind and caring person with a warm heart and a loving smile.
Funeral Services will be at the Heritage Park 5th ward (4986 South Valois Drive, Taylorsville UT). A closed casket viewing will be from 10:00am to 10:45am. The Service will begin at 11:00am. After which directions will be given to the burial services and a short family luncheon to follow.
