Marian Kathryn Holmes Todd (1938-2026)

Marian Kathryn Holmes Todd, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by the family she cherished on February 6, 2026.

Born May 14, 1938, in Ogden, Utah, to Richard Cy Holmes and Thelma Daniels Brown Holmes, Marian's life was defined by a profound love for learning and a gift for nurturing others. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education.

Her first teaching experience began in a 4th-grade classroom. On June 1, 1961, she married her eternal companion, Calvin Eugene Todd, in the Salt Lake City Temple-a union that would span 65 years of unwavering support and deep friendship.

Marian's greatest classroom was her home. While she served as a career center advisor in later years, her most significant work was a stay-at-home mother. She took immense pride in educating her children with a love for learning, as well as, teaching them not just how to cook and clean, but how to entertain with grace. Mom's home was filled with music. She was a talented pianist and conductor who taught her children to find their own voices. Some of the family's most cherished memories include Mom at the piano and Dad on his guitar, with their children singing along.

A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marian served in many capacities, including Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's President. However, her heart truly belonged to the youth, where she thrived as a legendary camp director. Her love for the outdoors was best seen through her mastery of Dutch oven cooking; her family often returned from a day of riding horses to find a "magical" feast waiting in the coals.

Marian was a woman of many talents. Her hand-painted Christmas village remains a family treasure, and her beautifully crafted needlepoints and cozy afghans serve as tangible reminders of her patience and artistry. She lived with an unshaken testimony of Jesus Christ, which was reflected in her joyful outlook and the peace she brought to her home.

Throughout their 65 years, Marian and Calvin were best friends. He often sang to her, even adding a special verse to their favorite song to tell her she was his "best friend." She was his constant support and the love of his life.

Marian is survived by her loving husband, Calvin E. Todd; her sister, Pat (Jim) Jewell; and her five children: Marianne (Vaughn) Oborn, Nancy (Steven) Young, David (Debbie) Todd, Cynthia (Aaron) Greer, and Marie (Eric) Miller. Her legacy continues through her 8 grandchildren: Jamie (Sam) Barker, Kelli Oborn, Jeremy (Sheri) Todd, McKay (Clair) Todd, Scott Todd, Kyle (Ashley) Miller, Kasidy (Benjamin) Stewart, and Erika (Philip) Barlow, as well as 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 11:00 am. at the LDS Mountain View 2nd Ward Chapel (2901 West 9000 South, West Jordan, UT). Viewing Services will be held prior to the Funeral at the same location from 9:30-10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in Marian's memory to the Shriners Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, an organization that mirrors her lifelong love for children.
