Margaret Rose Howell Skordas

July 9, 1928 — December 11, 2018

Margaret “Peggy” Rose Skordas passed away on December 11, 2018 at the age of 90. She passed away at Sunridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in West Jordan, Utah. Despite battling diabetes, arthritis, and breast cancer over the course of her life, she died of natural causes peacefully in her sleep.

Peggy was born to school teachers Richard V. And Florence Poole Howell in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 9, 1928. She had three siblings: brother Dick (deceased), sister Jean (deceased) and Gwyne Hansen, all of whom moved to California. However, Peggy lived in Utah for her entire life. She married and was widowed three times, first to Mack E Davis in 1947, then Tirey Bruce in 1990, and Pete Skordas in 2000.

Peggy is survived by two daughters and their families: Peggy “Peg” Howarth (Tom) and Carol Fletcher (Mike); four grandchildren: Camille Fletcher, Emily Smith (Ray), Ian Howarth (Candice) and Gillen Howarth (Brittney); and two great-grandchildren Tobin Smith and Lennon Howarth. Peggy was intensely devoted to her family, and her loving spirit, generosity, and hugs and kisses will be deeply missed.

Peggy loved people and radiated kindness. She called everyone “dear” and always had a nice word and a bright smile for all. She enjoyed traveling, whether she was on the road with Mack (a local musician) at his drumming gigs, cruising with Tirey, or sight-seeing around the U.S. with friends and family. She also enjoyed the slots and Blackjack. She was a devoted card player, loved Bridge and pinochle, singing, shopping, and socializing - including the women’s groups like the Red Hat Society. Whatever she was doing, she loved to laugh and had a sweet and slightly mischievous sense of humor. She really loved to have fun.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunridge in West Jordan for their attentive care, and also offer our deepest gratitude to Peggy’s dedicated and faithful friend Gladys Waggersby who provided companionship and comfort to Peggy in her later years.

Graveside services will be held in the spring. Peggy will be interred at the Utah Veteran’s Memorial Park with her first husband, Mack. Please check back here for details or call Peg at 801-290-2352.
