Lucy Lenore Spencer Tucker passed away peacefully at her home in Greenville, South Carolina, on June 23, 2026, at 92 years of age. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, friend, and so much more. She was deeply loved by her family and friends, and her presence will be greatly missed.
Lucy Lenore Spencer was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 14, 1933, to Joseph Raymond Spencer and Lucy Young Sanborn. After losing her mother at an early age, she grew up in a blended family of her father and stepmother, Bernice, as one of seven children. She attended Granite High School, where she enjoyed drama and debate and was part of a club that continued to meet and remained friends throughout the rest of her life.
In 1957, she met and eloped with her sweetheart, Lee W Tucker. They had eight children together. Lucy lived an active lifestyle. She sang in Sweet Adelines for many years and participated in competitions around the country. She was a Girl Scout Leader for several of her daughters and continued to volunteer as Girl Scout Neighborhood Chairman. She also sold Tupperware and became a manager, earning many bonuses and extra awards. After these earlier successes, she worked as an insurance auditor, along with Lee, jointly earning a lifetime achievement award for auditing, the Dana Sparrow Award. Even after she retired, she continued her volunteer work with UAID, helping those with intellectual disabilities and their families with support, holiday gifts, and more.
Lucy enjoyed the outdoors and even as an amputee, who lost her leg as a child, she spent a lot of time camping and doing other outdoor activities with her family. She enjoyed doing Bunka needlepointing and created beautiful pictures. Lucy was an avid reader who continued to read throughout her life. She loved playing games with family and friends, especially card games. Lucy taught her children principles of trust, fairness, and integrity and inspired them in many ways by the example of living her beliefs.
Lucy is survived by her eight children, Lark, Shelley, Terri, Becky, Heidi (Glen), Jason (Agnes), Jodi, and Derek (Cindy), and 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, and her grandson, Gabriel Guzman.
Both the viewing and funeral services will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 4251 S. 4800 W, West Valley City, Utah. The family invites all who knew her to attend and share their favorite memories.
