Lorna Bringhurst Cox

Lorna Cox

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Lorna Bringhurst Cox, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2021 after a short illness. Mom was born on July 15, 1930 in Toquerville, Utah, the first daughter of Samuel Bringhurst and Erma Stout Bringhurst. She was the second of five children. Mom attended Dixie College and Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in elementary education. She taught first grade following her graduation. Mom married Lee Taylor Cox on June 27, 1953, in the St. George Temple while Lee was on a military leave. During their marriage, Mom and Dad lived in Tacoma, Washington; Provo, Utah; Ames, Iowa; Seattle, Washington; Midland, Michigan; West Valley City, Utah; and her last destination, Provo, Utah. Amid these many travels, Mom gave birth to three sons and two daughters.

Mom was an avid reader and lover of music. She started taking piano lessons as a girl and played the cello in high school. She was an accomplished pianist and used that talent during her entire life. Her two daughters sang together often growing up, and Mom was always our pianist. Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings: Primary, Relief Society, Young Women, and pianist/organist for many years. She served as a temple worker in the Provo Temple for 22 years, and she loved serving in and attending the temple. After her retirement, Mom spent several years with her husband and two of her sisters and their husbands traveling to Europe, the Polynesian Islands, Tahiti, Canada, Mexico, San Francisco, Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii. Mom’s greatest joy was serving her Savior, Jesus Christ, and serving, loving, and supporting her family. She was always kind, loving and gentle, and she never had an unkind word to say about anybody.

Mom is survived by her eternal companion of 68 years; five children: Fred (Cathie) Cox, Jenette (Scott) Peterson, Kevin Cox, Lorene Nordgran, Paul (Kesha) Cox; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Karen Stratton.

Mom will be greatly missed, but we are so grateful to know that she is having a beautiful reunion with family members who went before her, that we are an eternal family, and that we will see her again.

Special thanks to the nurses on the 4th Floor Medical Section at Timpanogos Regional Hospital for their tender, loving care of our mother.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at Provo Canyon Wardhouse, 4300 North Canyon Road, Provo, Utah, where a viewing will precede services from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
