Gerry Pond

February 22, 1945 — March 31, 2019

Lloyd Gerald “Gerry” Pond, age 74, passed away on March 31, 2019 after a 10-year battle with ALS. Gerry was born on February 22, 1945 in Phoenix, Arizona to Lloyd Snow Pond and Ruth Alice Johnston.

Gerry graduated from Manzano High in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1963. Gerry loved to run and was on the High School track team. In 1964, Gerry was called to serve in the West German Mission. This is where he discovered his lifelong love of everything that is German, especially the people. In 1968, he married the love of his life Alice Darlene Cook in the Los Angeles Temple. Gerry graduated in 1970 from BYU with his Bachelor’s in History and European Studies.

Gerry Honorably served his country in the United States Navy from September 1970 to September 1976. Gerry returned to BYU for Graduate school where he was selected as “Outstanding Graduate Student” in Communications. Gerry spent his life working in the Communications Industry. He worked for KBYU-FM, KRSP Rock 103, LDS Public Affairs and the Utah Travel Council. His work ethic was second to none.

Gerry loved the Red Rocks of Southern Utah. Most of the family vacations were spent visiting Moab, Bryce Canyon, Zions, and the other amazing views of Utah. Gerry was very generous with his time and money. He was always willing to help his family and friends. This generosity was repaid tenfold during his long illness. His friends and family were a huge help during that difficult part of his life.

Gerry is survived by his wonderful loving wife of 50 years Darlene; his children, Allyson (Ben) Smith, JC (Nikki) Pond, Aaron (Trina) Pond, Grant (Nicole) Pond, brother Wayne (Mary Donna) Pond; grandchildren Presli Pond, Harrison Smith, Jaden Pond, Brinli Pond, Avari Smith, Taylor Pond, Reygan Pond, Kodi Pond, Asher Pond, Summer Pond. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
