Linda McCleery Symonds

Linda passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026. Until the end, she maintained her kindness, grace, compassion, love of family and friends. She cared so much for her people. She often put her own needs last. And she always let you know how much you were treasured by her.

She lived a life of service by taking on many caretaking roles, such as a Headstart teacher, a preschool teacher, an aide for adults with disabilities and finally a CNA. One of her favorite achievements was being on the governor's council to advocate for adults with disabilities to help them find work.

Linda is survived by her son Joey Symonds, her daughter Melia Symonds Johnson (Ryan) , granddaughters Lanie, Maci, and Zoe Johnson, her brothers, David McCleery (Wendy) Patrick McCleery, and Troy McCleery (Nadege). Sisters, Gaylene Ertman, Verna Petersen (John L), and Anita Morrison (Mike).

Linda is preceded in death by her son Terry Justin Symonds, her parents, Vern McCleery, Ella Faye Neilsen McCleery Liston, stepfather Vernon Liston, nephew, Christopher Robert Ertman, nieces Annie Petersen and Bonnie Clark; close friend Kathy Gillette, aka Dutchie, and her beloved mother-in-law, Daisy Symonds.

Funeral Services will be held Friday March 13, 2026, 10:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Viewing will be held 9-9:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah.

The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Care Willow Springs in Tooele and the nurses there for caring for her. Nurse Katie, thank you for being there to hold her hand.
