Linae Lee Goodyear Sanderson passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at her home in Hurricane, Utah at the age of 77.
Linae was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earl Bullock Goodyear and Esther Lillian Carlson on June 20, 1945. She married Russell Reid Sanderson on April 20, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married for 56 years.
Linae graduated from South High School and studied cosmetology at Salt Lake Community College. She was a professional hair stylist, who worked at Oren’s Beauty Salon in West Valley City for many years. For a few years, she owned her own barber shop. Linae was licensed in the states of Utah and Wyoming. She enjoyed the opportunity to work side-by-side with her father-in-law, Calvin Reid Sanderson, who owned the Teton Barber and Styling Salon in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She loved cutting and styling hair especially for her daughters.
Mom was very active. She loved to do water aerobics and riding her bike. At one time she rode her bike from her home in South Jordan to Antelope Island. While there she checked out the campground and visited some of the old farmhouses. A week prior to that, she participated in a 28-mile sponsored bike ride with some family members. She said they got rained on and a little muddy, but they had so much fun doing it.
Mom loved to garden and always planted a variety of plants and flowers throughout their yard. She loved to sew. When she was a child, she designed and sewed clothing for all her dolls. As she started a family, she made many dresses for her daughters including Easter and choir dresses. She loved to travel with Russell to many of his business meetings. Throughout their travels, they were blessed to see most of the United States.
Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She loved to attend their music, dance, and sports activities. She provided many treats for them during the holidays. She spent much of her time babysitting her grandchildren and planning outings or picnics at the park. Her grandchildren loved to find the purse in the toy drawer with the hidden vanilla wafer or teddy grahams. She always restocked it for the next visitor. This tradition was passed on to her great grandchildren.
Linae had a great love for music. Mom was determined to teach herself how to play the piano. She borrowed the beginning piano books from her daughters and sat down at the piano on a regular basis teaching herself how to play the hymns. Throughout the years, she and Russell attended many musical concerts within the states of Utah and Nevada.
Linae was a great mother and homemaker. She loved all kinds of animals. As a child, she was known to have many pets including dogs, cats, parakeets, a parrot, rabbit, fish, pigeons, chickens and her favorite, a rooster named Sam. One of her favorite things to do when they lived in Riverton, was to feed carrots, apples, and sugar cubes to the horses. When they moved to West Valley, they also fed the horses nearby where they lived.
From 2002 to 2003, Russell and Linae served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cleveland, Ohio. She served as the mission president’s secretary. Later, they also served for a short time on missions in Charleston, West Virginia and Nauvoo, Illinois. In the Nauvoo mission, she served at the mission president’s home, in the Nauvoo bakery, and provided a few tours of some of the historical buildings.
We love you mother; you will be greatly missed. We are grateful for the knowledge that you are now with your parents and siblings as well as many others who have gone on before you. We look forward to the day when we will all be together again.
Linae is survived by her husband, Russell Reid Sanderson, her children, Lorry (Rodney) Scow, Laury (Jeff) Christiansen, and R. Reid (Amber) Sanderson Jr., 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Duane (Pat) Goodyear.
Linae was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Lillian Goodyear, sister, Louise Marie Goodyear Pearce and brother, Earl Goodyear.
