LeRoy Matthew Vigil

June 10, 1955 — October 25, 2023

West Valley City, Utah

Leroy Matthew Vigil, our beloved grandfather, father, brother, uncle, and son, passed away in his home at the age of 68 on October 25th, 2023, from natural causes.

Leroy was born June 10, 1955, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carolina Romero Vigil and Demecio Vigil. Leroy is preceded in death by his Mother Carolina, father Demecio; brothers: Junior, Emerson, and Sammy; sisters: Lola, Rosa, Marsha, Elsie, and Estrella; nephews, Darren, Levi, Lyden, and Justin; nieces: Heather, Richelle, and Sophia. He is survived by his brothers and sister: Orlando, Joe, Marlo, Anthony, Mary Anne, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved fur baby Ali Vigil (Muhammad Ali).

The one thing Leroy wanted in this lifetime was to be a devoted and loving father. He fulfilled this accomplishment through his five children, Paul, Talia, Matthew, Sarah, and Chad. He was an incredible father; however, his greatest achievement was through becoming the best grandpa to his seven beautiful grandkids, Jazmyne, Mariyah, Angelo, Liliana, Lorenzo, Little Talia, and baby Mia. He cherished and loved his grandkids to the depths of his heart; they were his world. His relationship with his grandkids was so beautiful and unique, they will forever be a core memory in all their hearts. You wouldn't miss him cheering them on in their sporting events or fighting with refs on their behalf. He was always their biggest supporter, in sports and other aspects of their lives.

Outside of his time with his grandchildren, he would be enjoying a game of golf or attending a Utah Utes game with his brothers and nephews. He worked so hard and put in many hours working on his yard ensuring it was the best one on the block - it was, he was very proud of it. Mondays and Wednesdays were spent attending and supporting his son's basketball games. He showed his support through his enjoyment of providing his feedback and criticism, all while still encouraging them. These were great topic discussions during his spontaneous trips with his sons and grandsons to Las Vegas. They would drive the distance for some of the best cuisine and quality time. Not only did he have a deep appreciation for spending quality time with his family, but he also truly loved traveling to the Philippines. He absolutely appreciated the culture and enjoyed the people and time he spent there.

The loss of Leroy has been a profound one, leaving a void in the hearts of all those who were touched by his unfiltered and loving energy. He was a unique individual, capable of both offending and uplifting in the same breath, and his presence will be deeply missed. As his loved ones learn to navigate life without him, we ask that you keep his children, grandchildren, and family in your prayers during this difficult time. Leroy's life was filled with joy and pride in his cherished grandchildren, who brought him unparalleled happiness. In particular, baby Mia brought him a kind of love that was truly one-of-a-kind and deeply treasured in the last year of his life. Leroy loved her more than words could express, and his memory will live on in all those who were fortunate enough to know him and experience his unique spirit.

A service will be held on Friday November 3rd, 2023, at McDougal Funeral Home (4330 S Redwood Rd) at 7 PM. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Leroy. A celebration of life will be held at his home (6832 W 3100 S) on Saturday, November 4th at 1 PM. Please join us in celebrating this amazing man who was loved dearly by all those around him.
