Leo Stephen Zachman

November 8, 1950 - April 24, 2024

Leo Stephen Zachman, loving husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend passed away at home surrounded by family, on April 24, 2024.

Leo was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 8, 1950, to Raymond and Anne Zachman. He was raised on a dairy farm where he learned valuable life lessons from his parents and siblings. He learned the value of family, making time for fun, creating memories, hard work, and a love of Jesus Christ -- all values that were an integral part of his life and passed on to his family by example.

Leo graduated from St. Michael High School. Following high school, he joined the United States Marine Corp. Upon finishing his military service, he attended Mankato State University, where he met Jody. They eventually married and moved to Utah, where they made their home and raised their family for the last 49 years.

Leo spent 37 years serving our country as a United States Marine and as a member of the Utah Army National Guard. During this time, he served tours in both Vietnam and Afghanistan. He had a deep love and gratitude for his country and the freedoms we enjoy. He never missed an opportunity to share or teach the importance of the history of our country with his children and grandchildren. He shared these lessons at the dinner table, while working in the yard, while hiking in Zion, or on "quick Papa shortcuts" around town.

He loved working on helicopters and took pride in the work he did. His grandchildren refer to every Apache and Blackhawk helicopter as "Papa's helicopters."

One of Leo's gifts was his ability to turn work into fun and a game. He added an element of fun to any chore or project. He loved playing a variety of games with his family and friends. Some of his favorites were: croquet, bocce ball, and Chinese checkers - in all of which, he was the self-proclaimed champion.

Leo lived a life of humility and quiet service. He never passed on an opportunity to help someone in need. He was willing to give everything he had to help anyone. He loved helping others and never needed or wanted recognition for his continuous acts of service. Leo was a wonderful example of living a Christlike life. His example of service, humility, love of family, and discipleship will live on forever in his children and grandchildren. He knew and loved his Savior Jesus Christ and strived each day to be His Hands in any way he could. Leo is, for us, a window to Christ, the clearest one we've ever found.

Leo is survived by his wife Jody, his children: Mylei, Corey (Shanda), Holly (Mike), Nicholas, Annie (J.J.), Patrick (Nattarida), and Kallie; his grandchildren: Kennley, Logan, Sienna, Cole, Hunter, Aaliyah, Dayinera, Grady, Brielle, Ivie, Cohen, Belle, Emmet, Nattanisa, and Max; siblings: Sharon (Stan), Jane (Craig), Margaret (Al), and Michael (Elizabeth), and many other family members and friends.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Anne, sister Virginia, and brother Marcellus.

We would like to thank Dr. Nebhan and all those who work with her, and the nurses at the Riverton Hospital Infusion Services Center for the kind care they provided for Dad.
